Myrcene
monoterpene
Beta-myrcene (β-myrcene) is an acyclic monoterpene and the most abundant terpene in cannabis, comprising up to 65% of total terpene content in some chemovars. Aroma: earthy, musky, herbal with clove-like notes; also characteristic of mangoes and hops. Highly lipophilic — crosses the blood-brain barrier readily. Preclinical studies indicate analgesic and sedative effects mediated via TRPV1 channels, opioid receptors, and adenosine pathways. May increase blood-brain barrier permeability, potentially enhancing cannabinoid uptake. Dominant terpene in many Indica-leaning cultivars.
Preclinical evidence for pain relief via TRPV1 and opioid pathways; may enhance cannabinoid uptake through increased blood-brain barrier permeability
